Just a little story

"Do you think people will recognize me like this?"

"They probably won't expect to see you biking. You should wear some goggles though."

She giggled and asked me to hold her bike while she searched her bag for her sunglasses. Forcing me to stand very close to her. Too close for comfort.
I was studying her perfect features when she looked up and straight at me. Before I knew what was happening, I bent my head forward in an attempt to kiss her, our lips touching ever so slightly before she turned her face away.

"I'm sorry, Kate, I..."

"No, it's... I... you... You startled me, that's all."

A faint smile brushed her lips, as her cheeks grew slightly pinkish when she looked at me again. The flutters in my stomach became unbearable. Could this really be happening?
I bent forward again and this time our lips touched just perfectly. Warm and soft and slightly wet, her lips were, and they parted just a little to allow her tongue through. I was shaking all over, shuddering and my heart pounding as I parted my lips, as well.
As soon as our tongues entwined, the volcano in my insides erupted, spreading a hot stream of lava through my veins. My knees startled to buckle and I realized I couldn't stand upright much longer.

"Kate", I said as I carefully broke off our kiss, "maybe we should move to more appropriate surroundings."

"My thoughts exactly", she answered in a husky voice. "I was just about to loose consciousness."

We walked back to the studio to drop off Kate's bike, which was apparently not going to be used, again. She had attempted to bike home for three nights in a row now, but every day she had found a reason to not actually have to go through with it.

"You just got out of a divorce" she noted, out of the blue.

"Why exactly did you think I got a divorce in the first place?" I responded.

She quickly turned her head to face me.

"You didn't!"

"I did"

She smiled, put a lock on her bike and said "Your place or mine?"

Mine, of course, since I live alone. We walked back toward the street and I pointed at my car, parked across.

"Your chariot awaits you, Madame" I said jokingly, searching my handbag for the carkeys.

She smiled that special Kate-smile at me and my insides turned to jelly. Not ever in my life had I felt this way about anyone, ever. From the moment I landed my part on Star Trek, I had been working towards this. To have Kate be mine and cherish her forever.

Drifting on cloud nine is not necessarily the best condition to be in however, when one is crossing the street. That thought quickly dawned on me as I saw a big truck heading toward me, realizing I wouldn't be able to get out of it's way. I heard her scream my name just before it hit me.

"Jeeeerrrrrriiiiii!!!!"

And then the lights went out.
