Janeway's Revenge

Seven’s mission was clear; the Borg Queen negotiated her life for Captain Janeway’s. Seven didn’t want to go back to being a drone, but she would not allow that to happen to Janeway or any of her new collective. Seven’s road to humanity had been rough, but sacrifice was something new to her. Five days ago, the Borg Queen had contacted her through her cortical implant, warning her not to tell the Captain or anyone else of their discussion or otherwise the deal would be off. The Borg Queen needed Seven for something, she even promised not to be assimilated back into the collective, at least not right away. The Queen convinced Seven there was no choice in the matter, and if she did not comply, Captain Janeway would be assimilated right in front of Seven along with the rest of Voyager’s crew. Seven could not bear to watch it so she agreed to the Queen’s terms without even talking to the Captain about it.

The Borg Cube descended upon Voyager from out of no where, Janeway stunned on the bridge, when the Borg Queen came on screen.

“Captain Janeway, you were not expecting me.” It was a statement, not a question as the Queen glanced approvingly at Seven who stood behind Janeway on the deck. Seven felt her face flush, Janeway gaped at the Queen and her instincts made her turn around, and she saw Seven’s expression. Janeway felt cold inside, something was very wrong. Not only did the Borg Cube surprise her from no where, but the Queen herself wished to talk to her. Something was very wrong, and somehow she knew it was connected to Seven. Everything in her universe was always connected to her.

“What do you want?” Janeway spatted at the Queen.

“No human pleasantries that you’re so fond of?” The Queen retorted.

“It’s never pleasant when you’re around.” Captain Janeway replied.

The Queen actually smiled, “You do amuse me Captain Janeway, but I will come to the point, I want Seven of Nine to rejoin me. I promise I will not assimilate and in return I will allow your ship to leave this area without being assimilated.”

Janeway did not even need one second to think about it, “You’re dreaming. I will never let Seven go.”

“So you are willing to become a Borg drone Captain?”

“Who said I would allow that.” This conversation was pissing her off, she looked around on the bridge her crew were ready to start the fight.

“Captain.” Seven spoke forcefully, Janeway turned immediately around.

“What is it Seven.” “I will go.”

Janeway stood with her hand on her hip, “Out of the question Seven, Lt. cut communication.” The viewer screen went blank, “Alpha-Omega Ensign Kim, Tom execute Omega maneuver.” “Ah, Captain.” “Captain, we’re being pulled in by the tractor beam.” Chatokotay said. “Tuvok, use the reflector grid. “Yes Captain.”

The ship lurked forward and backwards, but the Cube began shaking the mighty Voyager ship. “Can’t we break free?” Janeway spatted out, she was becoming extremely frustrated, but she did have another plan. She needed more time for this plan, and it looked like she was going to have to play along with the Queen in order to make this work.

“Captain, we can’t take much more of this, we are tearing apart.” Cried Tom Parris.

“Captain, please stop this, I will leave, I can not allow you to sacrifice yourselves for me. She did promise I would be okay.” Seven actually looked scared at the thought of leaving Janeway, but she needed to suppress her personal feelings.

“Full stop Tom.”  The engines completely stopped the jerking action, and the Queen was back onto the viewer screen smiling uncharacteristically, Janeway pondered I’ll wipe that smirk off your face you bitch.

“My offer still stands Captain.” Janeway felt like a knife thrusted into her and twisted her bowls out. “It looks like I have no choice.”

The entire bridge crew hid their surprised reaction, Belanna Torres, couldn’t believe her ears, there was no way in hell Janeway would ever part with her pet project, Seven of Nine. Never. Janeway must be up to something and she hoped the rest of the crew would follow along with it.

Ensign Kim called out, “Captain, we can’t do that, Seven’s our friend.” “Ensign, please be quiet.” She turned to face Seven and felt like she was losing her what? Her favorite puppy, friend, oh, who are fooling Kathryn, you know exactly how you feel about her, maybe it’s time you tell you. But Janeway wasn’t a quitter it wasn’t over till the fat lady sings.

“I would like to beam over with Seven, if that’s possible.” Janeway asked. The Queen stunned at the sudden gesture on Janeway’s part, and she nodded, “I will allow that, and your safe passage back to Voyager. You have five minutes to do so.” “Janeway out.”

“Captain, we can’t allow her to bully us around.” Tom said. “Tom, we don’t have much choice.” “Seven please meet me in the transporter room; I will be with you in a few moments.” “Yes, Captain.” Seven stiffened up and entered into the turbo lift while everyone kept their eyes on her as soon as the door shut.

Janeway immediately gathered her troops, “Chat okay, I have a plan.” Ensign Kim breathed for the first time in ten minutes.

Janeway strode into the transporter room, wearing a black Velcro bracelet that Seven did not notice, but Janeway concealed it from her. Janeway stepped onto the dais, and turned to Seven.

“Are you sure about this? There’s no turning back now?” Seven faced the Captain and she saw the pain that was evident in Janeway’s eyes. “I wish to tell you something Captain.” “I don’t think we have time Seven, and I think I already know what you want to tell me. We’ve only got one minute left before the Queen starts barking more orders at us.”

Janeway wanted to reassure her friend, but the felt her anger rising at the young lady, if she only told her about the Queen coming. Oh, yes, she knew about the transmission, the Doctor informed her while she was on the bride formulating this plan. Seven would have to deal with the consequences, and Janeway hoped they would finish this conversation later on.

“Yes, Captain you’re right, we are out of time.” Seven felt hopeless, she would never tell Janeway how she felt, but Janeway grabbed Seven’s hand and squeezed it. She wanted to let the young woman know she would do whatever it took to make Seven safe. Words alone could not communicate the love she felt for this young creature. The transporter beam removed them from their safe home of Voyager to the cold, heartless Borg Cube. Several Borg Drones and the Queen stood waiting for Janeway and Seven to arrive.

“Captain you made the right decision.” The Queen stated.

Janeway nodded and looked around; there were five drones and the bitch to deal with, before her crew could execute their plan. She would have to stall until she got the communication that it was time to bail.

“So why did you come all this way for Seven of Nine?” The Queen came forward as if to sniff Janeway, she must suspect something thought Janeway.

“Seven is unique, and she belongs back with me.” The Queen reflected.

Janeway felt her rage rise, no bitch, she belongs with me. Instead Janeway asked, “I thought love was irrelevant to the Borg? And it appears to me that you love Seven of Nine.” Seven and the Queen were clearly surprised by the Captain’s remark.

“Love is irrelevant Captain. Love is a human emotion, and perhaps, it is you who loves Seven.”

Busted, that approach completely backfired on me.  Seven stared openmouthed at the Captain. Why would Janeway use this approach with the Borg Queen? The Borg had no love, no sympathy, so why would the Captain talk about love? Oh, maybe she does feel something for me, thought Seven of Nine. Janeway laughed, which once again startled Seven’s nerves. She wasn’t sure how much more she could take. Seven watched Janeway walk close up to the Queen as the drones stood on standby.

“I care for all of my crew which is something you don’t care know about. Everyone is expanding in your world.”

The Queen felt Janeway’s anger rising, she wanted this meeting to end now this was pointless. “Captain, I see that you’re upset, let me allow you to say goodbye to Seven, and then I strongly suggest you leave before I change my mind about assimilating you. You’ve got three minutes.” The Queen stepped back as did the drones out of sight, Janeway’s back was to Seven, and she felt the young woman’s confusion pierce her backside. Janeway couldn’t face her; all of her emotions were right on the surface and she had to hold on to the poker face a little while longer.

“Captain?” Seven was right behind her. How did she managed to do this to her, she had to stay in control for a few more minutes, but it was becoming harder and harder, the light on her bracelet turned red, which meant they had two minutes to get out of here. Janeway turned around and thought how would she convince Seven to come with her without arguing first? Seven’s eyes were moist, and without thinking like a captain, Janeway stepped inside of Seven’s personal space and drew her into a firm embrace. Seven never knew what hit her. Seven stood shocked but followed Janeway’s lead without protesting. Seven felt her courage leaving her, but she must pull away from these loving arms now, or she cry in front of her friend.

“Time’s up Captain.” The Queen walked into the chamber, Janeway’s snaked her arm around Seven’s neck, and crushed Seven’s lips with her own. Janeway entered Seven’s mouth as she wrapped both of her arms around Seven’s neck, shocking Seven and the Borg Queen. Janeway tapped on the strap, and the transporter beam came to life, pulling both Seven and Janeway back to the safety of Voyager. Leaving behind a very angry Borg Queen.

Inside of the Borg Cube, the Queen yelled, “Where did Voyager go?” The drones scrambled around trying to locate the small ship that suddenly disappeared from screen. Voyager acquired the Klingon’s cloaking device and Janeway knew this device would come in handy someday, but it would only buy them a few moments, before the Queen would pound on them. But Voyager only needed a few minutes to escape. Janeway and Seven were back on Voyager, and she reluctantly broke free from Seven’s beautiful lips turning toward a stunned Chakotay.

“Let’s get out of here Chakotay.” “Bridge, we have the Captain and Seven, go to Warp 5.” “Captain you’ve deceived me!” “Chakotay, I’ll be right up.” Chakotay nodded and left; he felt a huge fight coming and it wasn’t from the Borg Queen that would only be a little squeamish compared to the battle that was brewing right here in the transporter room.

“I’m sorry Seven I had to distract you and the Queen, while I got us out of there, in order to pull this off. Did you really think that I was just going to allow you to leave Voyager without a fight?”

Janeway stepped off the transporter pad and turned around patiently waiting for Seven to follow her, but Seven could not shake the length of deceit the Captain was capable of. She thought the Queen was bad, but here her friend was just as capable of deceit.

“Seven we’ll talk more about this later; I have to get to the bridge.” Still neither one of them moved. Janeway knew Seven was upset over the deception of the kiss, but she didn’t have time to explain it now. Except when she saw a single tear escape from the blonde’s eyes Janeway crumbled, right there and then.

“Oh, Seven, I didn’t mean to hurt you, I needed to be very close to you to beam you out, because you removed your conbadge before we left the ship. I had to be in your personal space.” Still Seven said nothing, yet another tear fell, crushing Janeway’s dissolve and her anger that she felt at Seven for not trusting her.

“You lied to me by kissing me, when you feel absolutely nothing for me.”

“You also lied to me Seven, you knew the Queen was coming and you didn’t say anything to me or anyone else. Why?”  Janeway was back in her personal space, breathing hard trying to push her anger and anxiety out of the way, hell; she had to get to the bridge.

“I did not tell you, because the Queen threatened me with your assimilation, and if I came back willingly she would spare your life, now you will cause your own demise.”

Janeway suspected as much, and felt some of the anger expelling from her lungs. Seven’s innocence was right there in Janeway’s face, and it was causing her pain. She knew she couldn’t lie to Seven anymore, nor to herself.

“I wasn’t lying to you when I kissed you. I would never to do such a thing, especially to you.” Seven’s mouth hung up, she was about to say something else, but the ship was hit by the Borg torpedo, at full impact causing Janeway to react.

“What the hell’s going on up there?” Janeway yelled into her conbadge.

The Commander came on, the Borg Cube can’t see us, but they are firing blindly.” “Get us out of here Chakotay. Warp nine!” “Yes Captain.” “I’ll be right up.”

“I’ve got to go Seven; we’ll continue this later in my quarters. Okay?” Janeway quickly stood on her tippy toes and kissed Seven for the second time in ten minutes, leaving behind a very stunned ex-Borg drone.
