I dream of Kathryn

Part 2

It had been a week since Seven had her first dream about Captain Janeway. Every night since, she had experienced a different dream - each one involvoing the Captain in some way. Seven was finding the experience more and more enjoyable, but the events in her dreams were becoming a distractio during the day. She was finding herself contemplating Captain Janeway rather than her duties in Astrometrics. She had decided that it was time she went to see the Doctor - perhaps he could put an end to the dreams.

Seven left her workstation and headed towards medical. She strode into sickbay just as the holographic doctor finished up lecturing a young Ensign on the dangers of playing Velocity for extended periods of time. The Ensign had the dignity to look repentant. Seven stood impatiently to one side waiting for the Doctor to notice her.

"I'll be with you in a moment Seven." He said, noticing her exasperation.

He was true to his word and quickly finished his tirade before dismissing the terrified Ensign and turnig to Seven.

"How can I help you?" He asked of her.
"I have been dreaming." She stated
"Excellent! That's good to hear. It means that your human brain is adapting to the lack of the Borg Collective for stimulation and has re-developed the ability to do so for itself."
"This is a good thing?" She said, not seeming so sure.
"Well...yes." the Doctor replied, not quite understanding what was wrong.

"Has the content of your dreams been unpleasant?" He enquired.
"No. They have been...pleasing."
"Then what's the problem?"
"The problem is the side-effects they are having." At the Doctor's confused expression, she felt the need to explain herself.

"I have found my daily processes to be interferred by thoughtd pertaining to the events contained within my dreams. My efficiency and task performance has dropped by 17.8%. Is this, also, a good thing?"
"Well I can't really say for sure. It all depends on what your dreams are about, and why they are distracting you from your duties."
"I don't think it is appropriate for me to go into detail on the content of my dreams."
"Well, just in general then."

"In general? I ahve been dreaming of...a crew member."
"The same crew member?"
"Every night."
"Are the dreams...sexually oriented?"
"Not consistently so. More so they just involve the...crew member."

"So you are having predominantly inocuous dreams about a Voyager crew member and are then being distracted by thoughts of this crew member. Correct?"
"Affirmative."
"Then the solution is simple. You obviously have feelings for this person, so you should go ad tell them how you feel."
"I do not think that is appropriate." Seven protested.
"Well it's the only way to minimise your distraction."
"I see." Seven looked thoughtful for a few moments.

"Thank you for your advice Doctor. I shall keep it in mind if my work is further affected." Seven turned and marched from the room.

The Doctor rolled his eyes and threw his hands in the air.
"Why do they come to me for advice if they never want to listen?" he said, addressing the ceiling.
