Someone To Watch Over Me
Seven of Nine stood tall, proud almost in Janeway’s ready room. Moving away from
the replication, Janeway glanced down at the report in her hand, inhaling the
scent of the coffee she’d prepared for herself. B’Elanna’s report wasn’t what
Janeway had expected it would be.
“I’ve read B’Elanna’s report.” Janeway turned away from the replicator, moving
towards seven. “Needless to say” Janeway glanced up at seven, “I was surprised.”
Seven arched an eyebrow, her Borg implant adding to the quizzical expression on
her features.
“I was careful not to violate protocols.” Seven stated, her eyes watching
Janeway as the Captain moved across the room.
“That’s not the point. This is a star-ship, not a nature preserve.” Setting the
report down, and her fourth cup of coffee for the day, Janeway glanced in the
mirror, brushing an errant strand of hair from her eyes.
“Oh, I’m missing a pip.” Janeway stated, talking to herself as she lanced out
for the lost pip. Seven frowned slightly.
“You asked me to broaden my knowledge of human behaviour.”
“I’m not questioning your goals, seven.” Janeway continued to search for the
missing pip, feeling flustered. Spying the tiny dot, Janeway crouched down,
snatching it up into the tips of her fingers. “It’s your methods. You shouldn’t
taking field notes on the crew.”
Moving to lean against her desk, Janeway let out a soft sigh. “Help me with
this, will you please?” Seven stepped forward automatically, taking the pip from
Janeway’s fingertips.
“Have you ever considered trying it yourself?” Janeway asked, a suggestive smile
creeping briefly across her features. The two women shared a glance, Seven’s
confusion portrayed in that one brief moment. “Romance, I mean.” Janeway
elaborated.
“I do not require a romantic relationship.” Seven stated plainly, in her usual
monotonous tone.” Janeway smirked again, this time her smile reminding.
“So, why did you collect 30.000 giggaquatts of data on the subject?” Janeway
asked. Seven hesitated, thrown off by the smile in Janeway’s dark eyes.
“I’m late.” Captained Kathryn Janeway declared, moving to brush past Seven.
“You are suggesting that I engage in a romantic
relationship, Captain?” Seven asked, causing the older woman to pause in her
stride.
Janeway turned, several metres short of the doorway. A half-smile etched across
Janeway’s face.
“Perhaps.” Janeway replied.
“There is no on aboard Voyager that I would consider having romantic relations
with.” Seven said quickly, diverting her gaze. Janeway took a step closer,
“I don’t believe you.” Seven swallowed thickly, experiencing a sudden rush of
nerves washing over her. It was a strange and unusual feeling, yet not
altogether unpleasant.
Seven turned then, to face Janeway. Folding her arms across her chest, Kathryn
held Seven’s faze defiantly.
“There has to be someone who’s sparked your interest. Perhaps someone you’ve
gotten to know quite well.”
“I…” Seven hesitated. Seven was Borg, Seven was not accustomed to human
flirtations, yet not a complete stranger to the notion.
“What are you suggesting, Captain?”
“I might be late, but not entirely.” Janeway shrugged casually, a rare gesture
for the Captain of the Federation Star Ship Voyager. Seven understood then,
perfectly, what Janeway was trying to convey.
Seven’s abrupt stride seemed softer as she approached Janeway, who looked
undeniably handsome in her uniform, the one reserved for special occasions, such
as the seminar Janeway was due to attend that very afternoon. Reaching out,
Seven brushed her fingertips lightly over Janeway’s’ four pips and smiled slowly.
“I’ve come to notice how incredibly beautiful your smile is, Seven.”
“I have always notices yours.” Seven answered, matter-of-factly. “Perhaps that
is because it is rarely seen.”
“Perhaps.” Kathryn shrugged as she reached up to cover Seven’s hand with her own.
Their embrace, although anticipated, came as a surprise to Seven, who found
herself meting against Janeway’s’ shapely figure. Janeway slid her arm about
Seven’s slender waist, effectively pinning the younger woman to her. Inhaling
the scent of the perfume Seven had recently begun wearing, Janeway felt her
knees weaken.
“Captain?”” Seven asked, alarmed, “Are you ill?”
“Not at all Seven, just a little light-headed, but
that’s to be expected.”
“Captain?” Seven asked, curiously, her head cocking slightly to one side.
Janeway laughed as she continued to hold Seven’s body to hers.
“After all your studies, you still haven’t noticed the effect those in love have
on each other” Janeway asked. Seven took a small step back from Janeway.
“Explain.” Seven asked, although it sounded like a demand. Janeway let out a
deep breath, wondering how she could explain what she meant.
“When you’re in love with someone, Seven, you just...” Janeway shook her head,
uncertain how to continue. With no words coming to mind, Janeway stepped forward,
pulling Seven into her arms, forcing her lips upon the woman’s. Seven resited,
yet only for the briefest of seconds before melting into Kathryn’s body.
Ignoring everything she’d been about to lecture Seven on, including Starfleet
protocol, Janeway allowed their kiss to deepen. Janeway felt Seven’s tongue
tease hr own, snaking into her mouth ever so softly. Breaking their embrace for
a brief moment, Janeway drew in a gasp of breath.
“Captain?” Seven asked, concern etched over her features.
“It’s Kathryn, Seven. That’s an order.” Janeway sighed.
“As you wish.” Seven permitted. “Captain, am I… kissing you correctly? I have
only used Holodeck stimulations…”
“Seven…” Janeway began slowly.
Seven seemed to understand then, that there was no need for words, only the need
to feel, to experience. Removing Janeway’s jacket, she found the woman’s bare
shoulders. Running her hands lightly across the standard issue tank top, Seven
encircled Kathryn’s breasts, her hands resting lightly over Kathryn’s erect
nipples.
“Computer,” Janeway broke back from Seven for a moment, taking a gasp of breath,
“Seal the door.” The computer complied, giving both women complete privacy.
Moving to the comfort of the sofa, Janeway pushed Seven’s body beneath her own.
“You are… forceful, Captain.”
“Did you expect anything less?” Janeway arched an eyebrow. Hovering over Seven
for a moment, Kathryn held the younger woman’s gaze, peering into her intense
blue eyes. Blue as the nebula, which Voyager had passed not that long ago.
“Kathryn…” Seven’s voice was barely above a whisper
as Janeway reached for the released mechanism at the back of seven’s bio-suit.
“What?” Seven asked. Janeway frowned slightly. Had Seven suddenly realized that
what they were doing wasn’t at all appropriate conduct for a former Borg, let
alone a Starfleet Captain?
“What is it, what’s wrong Seven?” Janeway asked softly . Seven shifted
uncomfortable, forcing Janeway to retreat, rise and move away from the sofa.
Seven stood, back to Janeway, peering out across the Delta Quadrant.
“You and I Captain, we’re not that similar.”
“What do you mean?”
“You are human.”
“As are you.”
“You have always been human. I have always been Borg. You have experienced many
things that I have not.”
“Such as?” Janeway asked, willing to allow Seven to express her thoughts. For
the time being.
“Mark.” Seven said the name as if it were Species 8472, something to be detested.
Janeway drew in a deep breath, turning away from Seven, and Seven’s reflection.
“You are distressed. Perhaps I should leave?” Seven asked, somewhat hesitantly.
“It’s alright, Seven.” Kathryn said after a moment’s pause. “I don’t want you to
leave.”
“Are you not still infatuated with this human?” Seven asked, moving across the
space between them, forcing herself into Kathryn’s view. Janeway swallowed
thickly.
“I’m still... maybe.” Janeway answered. “That doesn’t interfere with my feelings
for you.”
“I was not aware you had feelings for me.”
“Seven, you must have known.” Janeway said dismissively.
“I’m not Borg. I’m unable to always remain… neutral.”
“I did have my suspicions.” Seven admitted slowly, her posture remaining erect.
“I dismissed them”
“You shouldn’t have.” Seven, since you’ve been aboard Voyager, I’ve found myself
having thoughts… strange thoughts.”
“Such as?”
Janeway hesitated. Could she tell Seven that her thoughts had mostly consisted
of throwing Seven against the side of the corridors, pressing her body against
Seven’s, caressing her, delving into her. Janeway blushed.
“I think I can… imagine what you mean, Captain.”
“It’s Kathryn.”
“Kathryn.” Seven said her name and it sounded strange, almost foreign.
“I feel as if I’ve ruined the mood.”
“On the contrary, you are more intriguing to me now than ever before. You
desire me, yet you still desire this Mark.
“You can tell all of that by just looking at me?”
“I accessed your personal logs. It was there.” Seven informed the Captain of
this violation of her privacy and Janeway saw red. It wasn’t the first time
Seven had angered her, although the other times had usually consisted of just
anger, then intense desire washing over her.
“I’m late, Seven.” Janeway snapped. “And you should report to the doctor for
your weekly check-up.” Janeway turned away from Seven then, retrieving her
fallen garment from the floor.
“Kathryn, you sealed the door.”
“Computer, release the door.” The computer complied.
Janeway waited to hear the sound of Seven leaving. When she realized Seven was
still there, she turned, enraged.
“I told you to leave, Seven. That’s an order.
“You are angry with me.” Seven stated.
“You’re damned right I am.” The Captain’s fiery temper flared, her eyes
darkening. “You had no right to access my personal logs. I can’t even figure out
how you managed it.”
“Your technology is insufficient.” Seven stated. Janeway shook her head angrily.
“You keep telling us that, Seven! This is insufficient, that is insufficient. If
we’re so insufficient, who do you even bother?”
“I have feelings for you, Captain.” Seven replied formally. Turning then, Seven
departed from Janeway’s ready room. Leaving Janeway standing there, her mind,
and heart in turmoil.
